Why a Tobacco Pipe Makes a Great Gift for a Pipe Smoker
Pipes are a classic gift and one that’s sure to please any pipe smoker on your list. However, many people aren’t familiar with the differences between tobacco pipes and other smoking pipes, so they end up buying the wrong type of pipe for their loved ones. To avoid this mistake, keep reading as we explain why you should buy your pipe-smoking friend or family member a tobacco pipe this holiday season!
1) What is a tobacco pipe?
A tobacco pipe is a device used to smoke tobacco. It comprises three basic parts: a bowl, which holds tobacco; an airway, or stem; and a mouthpiece. Pipes can range from simple machine-made briar models to highly prized hand-made artisanal implements made by renowned pipe-makers using exotic hardwoods, precious metals and rare glasswork.
2) How can you select the right type of pipe?
Knowing how to select a pipe is just as important as knowing how to use one. If you’re buying for someone else, make sure you know their taste and style before getting them something they won’t like. Ask them what they have that they like to smoke out of and pay attention to their favourite features: metal, wood, bamboo? Small, big or medium bowl? Make sure you take all of that into account when shopping around because picking out someone’s ideal first pipe can be tricky if you don’t do your research. Once you’ve found your subject matter expert and asked what he or she already owns, it’s time to check out some pipes yourself! Look through some sites and find a few pipes in varying styles that are appealing — something with natural materials if possible.
3) Which material should your new pipe be made from?
One of my favourite things about smoking tobacco out of a pipe is that you can choose from an array of materials. Depending on how much money you want to spend, you can choose from briar, meerschaum, clay or corn cob. The first three are considered natural, while corn cob pipes are labelled as artificial. When deciding what material to purchase, consider these four factors: price, durability (clay and corn cob pipes tend to be much cheaper than briar or meerschaum), style and taste. It’s important that it’s durable enough not to crack or chip every time you do anything.
4) Why do they make great gifts?
The first reason why tobacco pipes and lighters make great gifts is that they are beautiful and elegant. These are objects to be treasured, and when you have one in your hand, you can’t help but feel more relaxed. The second reason why tobacco pipes make such wonderful gifts is that they enable more intimate connections between smokers. When you give someone a pipe, you’re giving them a physical link to your shared experience with them. It will become something that reminds them of you each time they smoke it—so if it’s important to have quality time with friends or family members, consider buying one as an alternative gift option next year.
